tonight we set the alarm clock for 2:30 am. we got up and are now just hanging out, watching tv and playing around. why? because we can. this is our favorite time to be up doing nothing- but we always get sleepy to early to usually stay up this late. so we go to sleep for about 4 hours or so, then we get up to do a whole lot of nothing. it is wonderful. we tend to do this on the weekends we don't have the boy. it is great because nobody calls. the phone just doesn't ring. it is a relaxing, soothing time to be up.

lately we have been watching all sorts of interesting movies. for so long, neither of us had wanted to watch anything other than silly, light comedies. that was even before our friend and my dad both died. this summer though, i guess that we began making up for that by watching all sorts of stuff that falls far from the realm of comedy. i wonder if it is somehow making me feel better to watch other forms of suffering. not that i want others to suffer, but it helps keep my own life in perspective a little- or it helps me remember all that i do still have. both the sweet one and get all emotionally invested in all these movies, hiding our faces at the gory parts (i don't enjoy the bloody gore and violent parts of movies), we get all wound up and turn into maaaad mads when the good people aren't treated right, we sometimes even cheer and squee when things do go well for our favorite characters.

i don't know if this started our odd movie renting streak or not (i think it may have), but somehow we rented a movie based on a true story about a serial killer. soon, we were renting any similar movie- if it was based on any real life serial killer, we would rent it. that started this kick where we would look for any movie based on a true story. we watched movies about the catholic priests who molested young boys, middle aged women who help ladies with unwanted pregnancies, people who take on major companies that do bad things (pollute the area making residents sick), other crime or trial based movies, movies about nazi germany and how the jews were treated, movies about slavery or racism in the south, abused housewives who win contests to care for their family, the man who wrote peter pan...those are the ones i can remember off the top of my head. we currently have one about queen victoria.

mixed in with these, we also got several other dramas, not based on true stories. we have watched movies where people try to overthrow corrupt governments, women find out their long-time husbands are gay or transexual (there were two separate movies).

anywho, the whole point is that we have been watching all sorts of interesting stuff in terms of movies lately.
