i have made some further observations: these are just my observations from this quarter, since january.

1. it is still predominantly black men who grab crotches still, at least where i have done my observations. for those who aren't black, the vast majority are dressed in urban, ghetto, rap, type clothing (that hip hop style that involves wearing your pants below your buttcheeks, crooked caps, etc...). in fact, i can only recall one instance of a non-hip hop man grabbing his crotch and he seemed to have purpose behind his grabbing (he seemed to have some...er...itching...going on). he was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt- no real style to speak of. still no business suits, nerds, cowboys, etc...so far, no asians.

2. that being said- i have noticed that the "redneck" group (who are equated with the cowboys and ranchers i grew up around in new mexico...boys full of testosterone who wear wrangler jeans, baseball caps (though, not crooked on their heads)- often have the ring from tobacco permanently faded into their jeans pockets- well this group encroaches on their crotch- but they don't seem to really grab on. they hook their thumbs in their pockets in such a way so their fingers curl near their genitals. it is like they are framing their package with their hands. maybe it makes them look larger or something.

3. style of crotch grabbing still varies- some grab on and hold for dear life, others grab-release-grab-release, others don't actually grab but gently place their hands in front of their crotch- i suppose ready to grab in a second's notice if need be.

4. i have began wondering if there is a hierarchy for crotch grabbing- perhaps you have to be the head dog (alpha male) to grab and hold. i really don't know. or maybe it is a progression- you start as an occasionally grabber (just checking to make sure your boys are still hanging where you left them last), and then it develops into nutsack ocd- and you have to check and make sure your bits are there more and more often, until pretty soon you are just attached for dear life. maybe different groups or cliques grab differently- maybe this is how people spot their friends from a distance (hey, is that mike? wait- no, mike doesn't let go like that man is- that can't be mike).

5. does penis size have anything to do with crotch grabbing? maybe this is why black men do it more (if rumors are true that is...i have very little personal experience with black dicks). the man i know with the largest penis definitely touches at it more than the other men i know...also, this might explain why i have seen no asian men doing this- if rumors about their genitalia are also to be believed (and i have no experience with asian peni- except for the diapers i changed at the day care i used to work at...and those were children and honestly i can't remember what a single one of those winkys looked like). again, these are just my wonderings- i have collected no empirical evidence on the matter. only some naturalistic observations done as i wander through my daily life.

6. i have seen a few more female crotch grabbers, but they are all singers who are mostly black and into hip/hop and rap. also, the women who do this are typically acting one of two ways: either highly sexual or seductive, or fairly tough and strong seeming women who are in touch with some of their masculine side.

7. i have noticed this crotch grabbing in children too- though i don't know how young it starts. this is a new direction my observations may take me. but young boys do grab on a bit sometimes...and i'm not talking about the constant grabbing at it that young children do...more like 8 or 9 year olds who intentionally do it while trying to look cool.

anywho, i don't know if i have even gathered anything new on this or if i have just found the same things as i saw in the past...but i will continue watching the crotch grabbers who exist all around me. in fact, i may start watching people's reactions to my own crotch grabbing- i can try different outfits or styles, do it in different locations- do it while dressed more feminine and more masculine...just see what happens. but i feel pretty shy lately, so maybe i won't be doing that any time soon.
